Before their mating ceremony, Caleb favours Wendy and mistreats the narrator for an inability to shift. Wendy’s treason is then redirected into a false accusation, which he accepts without inquiry. Investigators interrupt the planned banishment with evidence against her. The narrator severs the mate bond and resolves to awaken dormant White Wolf power rather than remain dependent on Caleb’s standing.
