Synopsis
A village custom requires couples to visit a shrine before marriage. While the narrator's sisters have married, every boyfriend she brings emerges hostile, sometimes violent.
Her new boyfriend enters with her father, the village chief, and attacks her afterward. She questions both the shrine's hidden influence and her father's insistence on repeating a ritual whose consequences he already knows.
